Lucky House Kitchen is a straightforward spot for anyone craving traditional Chinese takeout or a no-frills dine-in meal in Bed-Stuy. Located on Lewis Avenue, it serves up a menu rooted firmly in classic Chinese-American favorites, with standout choices like Chicken with Broccoli paired with fried rice, and a rich Chicken Liver and Roast Pork Fried Rice smothered in brown gravy. The kitchen keeps things honest, focusing on familiar comfort dishes without any pretense.

The atmosphere isn’t about ambiance or modern trends—it’s practical and unvarnished, much like many neighborhood Chinese joints that serve the community reliably. There’s a casual, somewhat old-school vibe, and while speed isn’t their strong suit (both food and service can run on the slower side), the quality of the dishes makes up for the wait. The woman behind the counter, known locally as Sue, adds a touch of personality to the place, reinforcing its rootedness in the neighborhood.

Many come here for the food that feels made-to-order, especially the General Tso’s chicken, which uses larger chunks of fresh chicken instead of heavily battered pieces—something that’s become a local point of pride. The chicken nuggets also have a loyal following, prized for being properly breaded chicken breast chunks rather than the usual processed nuggets. If you’re passing through and hungry, this place is best for a filling, no-nonsense meal that lets the food speak without fuss.

Lucky House Kitchen operates on cash only and doesn’t do delivery, so it naturally attracts a mostly local crowd willing to walk over or pick up their order on site. This contributes to its role as a neighborhood staple rather than a destination spot. A midday or early evening visit tends to be the rhythm here, when locals drop in for hearty, straightforward meals without the rush or frills.

  • Best for: Classic Chinese-American dishes served in solid portion sizes
  • Who will enjoy it: Locals and visitors who value authentic, simple neighborhood food over trendy dining experiences
  • Best time to visit: Lunch or early dinner when the kitchen is freshly cooking but isn’t slammed
  • Atmosphere: Functional and unpretentious with a sense of old-school neighborhood charm

I had the wings and shrimp fried rice, they have a special dipping sauce that is amazing.

Our area's food reputation just got a boost from this place. The food makes you happy and the bill seems right. Our orders didn't rush out of the kitchen and bar service was equally slow. Their dishes taste noticeably good. I'll be visiting again when I'm around here.

After trying other places, nobody does Chinese food better than this place. For example, the general tso has chunks of fresh chicken, rather than tiny pieces of chicken with overload batter. This place does it right!

I mean you can't get better Chinese food in BedStuy or Brooklyn for that matter, it's BOMB. Sue, the woman that heads the place is a character, but kind, polite. The freaking food is A1...downfall is that they only take cash and do not deliver but I will walk miles for the food. The chicken nuggets are famous, its actual breaded chunks of chicken breast, like YES! The chicken fried rice or fried rice in general has an authentic taste of its own and the low mein...ok, I'm getting hungry, bye, I'm getting this today and I'm going to Uber from crown heights. Cheers.

So tasty. So good. Whenever we need a fake chinese food fix, this is our go to spot. Pretty fast but order ahead if you can. No delivery available but trust, it’s worth getting up and going to pick it up yourself. 5 stars, wish I could give 10 stars.
